This is a late post. Mainly because there weren't many games I played last year.
Welp, here it is!

This year sucked for me. I got sick in May, leaving me with even less energy (physical and mental) and even fewer games I played than usual. It was mainly Toontown Rewritten with a Pokemon music content pack I made and this year's number-one pick. And since TTR was on a previous list, it is automatically disqualified!

This is when I write up my list for the top games I've played this year. However, all I've played for most of it is Pokemon. A whopping five games in this franchise in fact. So, since I list five games I liked playing the most this year, I just need to put them in order.

I'm just gonna come out and say that overall, this year sucked. I won't get into too much detail, as here isn't really the place for it. But I will say that I didn't get to play as many games this year as I would have hoped. So, let's just get right into it.

When I first heard the announcement for Axiom Verge 2 in December 2019, I was hyped beyond belief. I wanted to own it on Steam, as I had the first game on Steam, but I bought it on Switch on Day 1. I hate Epic and I don't own a PS4 or PS5. I also wanted to 100% it myself without a guide (managed to get to 98% before I caved in to the temptation of looking up a guide (ostensibly for the sanctity of the Twitch playthrough I was doing, but the more realistic reason is that I'm bad at video games)). It took me a while to put down my full feelings on the game because distractions, but here they are, under the cut

2020 was a garbage year, what with the coronavirus outbreak, subsequent lockdown, and subsequent failure to achieve my goals for the year. But, there is a small light, in the form of the few games I've played through this year.
Like last year, I will not put on entries from the last two lists. Here it is.

And there's my Top 5 for the year. Next year is uncertain about how many new games I'll want and be able to play, so I might end up playing more older games, so.

I had so much hype for this game that's been building for over three years, ever since I've first heard of it on Tumblr. I even bought it Day 1, something I have never done for any other video game I have owned. I even wrote a Multiversal Axioms chapter based on Trace's role in the fighting game that I will post on the last Sunday of this month. I've streamed it on Friday and briefly on Sunday and even played a little bit on my own time in an attempt to get farther in it. And I have a few things to say about it.
Here I am, complaining about an indie video game )

If you're an Axiom Verge fan and have been looking around AO3, you may have come across a little fanfic collection known as Multiversal Axioms. This fan project of mine has really grown in the past two years or so. At this point, I've written 32 chapters and posted 27 of them every last Sunday of the month.

I've toyed with many ideas for Axiom Verge fanfiction, many long-form epic and emotional stories. One of which was going to be a trilogy prequel to the events of the game. Another was going to be an AU romance with the Rusalki as mermaids. However, as plenty of writers will tell you, it's not the idea, it's the execution. And I was not happy with how any of them were turning out, nor did I feel like any of them were good enough to post on the Internet. Until I decided to write a short-form fic about Trace discovering that the JUSTIN-BAILEY code works on the Passcode Tool. I then wrote about nine more fics in the same short format before I decided to start posting them online. And things expanded from there.

The series as a whole was inspired by a few similar-ish fics on both AO3 and FanFiction.net as well as the web series Freeman's Mind of all things, the inner thoughts and machinations of a crazed physicist. While Trace is obviously saner than how Gordon Freeman is portrayed, I still tried my best to emulate that kind of style of describing the thoughts and feelings Trace would have during the events of the chapters. Your mileage may vary on how well I managed to accomplish that. One example that comes to mind is Chapter 19, Broken Physical Laws. I tried to describe it as Trace observing the, well, broken laws of physics on Sudra by first noting the graphical corruptions before segueing to the wonky Grapple and theorizing that the planet's proximity to the Breach might be the cause of this. But someone on Discord interpreted the chapter as lambasting the Grapple. I know, death of the author and all, but it's still interesting to note.

Speaking of things to note, guess now's the time to talk about my other series, Platonic Set Theory. This was a series written for the BroTP March challenge on Tumblr and I decided to see if I can use the Multiversal Axioms format to write a fic every day for 31 days. I could do it, but it was kind of a struggle. And the format really is the only connection between the two fics, they're completely unrelated otherwise. For one, while I do like many of the chapters I wrote during the challenge, a lot of the chapters were obviously rushed. For another, one stipulation I added for Multiversal Axioms was to write each chapter as close to canon as I possibly could. Again, your mileage may vary on how well I succeeded on that part, and with the upcoming release of the sequel to the game, who knows how many of those chapters will become outdated. Platonic Set Theory did not have that stipulation. Egregiously, in Chapter 27 Babysitting, Trace and Hammond play Babysitting Mama, a Wii game that came out in 2010. By that time in canon, Trace and Hammond (presumably) have already gone off to Sudra.

So I guess that's my ramble about my silly fanfiction. I will try to keep the series going as long as I can, and hey, with Axiom Verge 2 and Bounty Battle (essentially Indie Smash Bros with Trace appearing in it) coming out this year, I might get some plenty material to work with. I'm already toying with the idea of making a series with the same format but starring the protagonist of the sequel, Indra.

Although I have played more games this year, most of them were during my Cookie of Fortune streams, so I didn't play them long enough to form a particularly strong opinion on them. So here's another Top 5 list.
And I have a new rule: No entries from last year will be going on this year's list.

I've been hearing a ton of flack this generation of Pokemon is getting, and the games aren't even out yet. Sure, some criticism is valid and worth taking into consideration, but good lord! I've never seen a fanbase whine as much as the Pokemon fanbase has whined this year! It's annoying and griding on my nerves, so here's some personal thoughts and opinions I've had on the matter.

I'm not really one able to play games as soon as they come out. As such, I'll start listing off games I was able to play this year, regardless of when their actual release came out. Because when it comes to video games, age is just a number.

You know what? I'm going to talk about what is definitely my favorite part, and what is in my opinion the most under-appreciated part of Axiom Verge: Trace, the protagonist. At a glance, he may seem "one-note" and "boring," but there are too many nuances that many of the game's critics seem to just... skip over..

I recieved Pokemon White for my birthday on July 2nd, and beat the game in a little more than a week. I've been talking to my (less Pokemon- obsessed) friend about it for months on end, telling everyone how much I wanted the game since it came out, and I was excited when I finally got the game. However, I was dissapointed when I had beaten the game in not even two weeks, That being said, I enjoyed the short time spent on it.

This cartoon is an action-adventure fantasy comedy about a group of adventurers in a fictional world. I'm still thinking up the pilot episode and plot, so stay tuned.

The site is still under construction, as well, and when I finish it, it can be searched by Google and Yahoo.

So, yeah. Stay tuned!

EDIT: The pilot episode storyboard-thing has been completed and now I'm working on the one for the next episode.
